Colin Farrell leads a chaotic space mission in the Voyagers trailer. The science fiction film is set in the near future and tells the journey of 30 young men and women who are sent into space in several generations in search of a new home. However, under Farrell’s leadership, things take an abrupt turn.
Lionsgate Movies released a trailer for Voyagers that delivers a heavy dose of neon, starting with optimism when the characters experience the mysterious substance “blue”. Soon, however, the euphoria becomes dangerous. The crew goes mad and falls back on their most primitive impulses. In doing so, they discover more about themselves. The film was written and directed by Neil Burger, who directed Limitless and The Illusionist. Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, Viveik Kalra, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Quintessa Swindell and Chanté Adams also star. The Voyager’s release was originally scheduled for November 2020 before it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now the film is coming to cinemas and IMAX on April 9th. The Voyagers trailer definitely hints at an ambitious and provocative film. While Burger is no stranger to the fast-paced tone and adrenaline he delivered with Limitless, it remains to be seen whether he can break a breakneck pace for a movie in space.

The trailer lives up to the description of what you’d expect from the director of Limitless. It can be seen from the images shown that Voyagers is a simple number-based science fiction thriller set in space. Our young adults were borrowed from various films and tropes and were born and raised in a laboratory. Her emotions were altered by chemical manipulation drinks. When Sheridan, Depp, and the rest of the teenagers find out about it, they stop taking their medication and experience emotions and desires for the first time. Of course, they have lots of fights, sex, and all other forms of hedonism. To top it off, the spaceship is starting to fail and it looks like they might be stranded.
The studios have attempted to connect with YA audiences through science fiction adventure films over the past few years. Ready Player One, Enders Spiel, The 5th Wave, The Maze Runner, and The Giver have achieved varying degrees of commercial and critical success. In addition to Voyagers, there are other YA science fiction films that will premiere in 2021, including the insanely delayed Chaos Walking with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley. (Ridley will also star in Burger’s new psychological thriller, The Marsh King’s Daughter.)
In terms of the star power behind Voyagers, Farrell is always a joy to see along with this incredible roster of aspiring players. All of these artists have an incredible list of projects in the works, with Sheridan especially noteworthy. It is recently linked to George Clooney’s new movie The Tender Bar, the adaptation of the famous Vietnam War book The Things They Carried, and Paul Schrader’s new movie The Card Counter. So travelers may just have to be on our list of movies to see Sheridan before he’s a mega-star.

The film revolves around a group of specially crafted, fresh-faced young people on a mission in space, all of whom need a fight from tired mentor Colin Farrell. Voyagers serves up great euphoria vibes with its powerful neon lighting and devilish demeanor. As we know, the square is usually where all bets are closed and those who were literally designed to obey orders may not be as ready to obey when they have a taste of new opportunities are exposed.
The Voyagers trailer premise, released Tuesday morning, seems like any other to begin with the promise of space exploration. However, the pink title cards and the inclusion of very obvious techno music make it clear that this is not going to be your average sci-fi movie either. A voiceover suggests that the group of young travelers used drugs against their will, although it remains to be seen whether they will be forced to wean themselves off the mysterious so-called “blue” substance or find some other way to get off their drugs to bypass. Either way, they begin to realize that this is the first time they can feel things — and each other — and that a new exposure to different sensations proves more addicting than anyone else. Dancing, fighting, and sex (lots of sex) follow quickly.
